August 21: Toledo part 1

Tom and I took the car and headed to Toledo for the day.

Driving there, we saw a forest of cranes, a reflection of
how much construction is going on in Spain:
This is the car Tom's parents rented for the trip, an Opel Meriva:

A building with a nice courtyard we stopped at as soon as we arrived in Toledo. Can you see Tom?
A large door knocker on the building... solid metal, but very faded:Krista: Hey look! Parkee de Bumberoos!!!
(In my defense, we saw the sign from above and the Os did look like Us.)

Tom in front of the walls just before we head through the archways leading to the uphill and historical part of the city:

A quote by Cervantes on Toledo... found inside archways:

Some neat wooden balconeys:Secure stone "windows" (later seen inside a synagogue and very pretty when the light shines through them):
Tom checking out the view as we climb higher:
Krista and Tom. The towers above the archways we first walked through are visible over Krista's head:
Krista on the uphill climb... still smiling:
Architecture painted onto a building:
A grim scene:
We tried to follow a walking tour, and started out on our way to a museum:
A view of the front wall of the museum. Can you see the bullet holes?Close up of bullet holes:

He's no saint... :)Tom and I went into a free little museum, most of the artifacts were outdoors by the courtyard:
Stone slabs lining the inner walls of the courtyard:Tom reading some of the stone slabs: Krista in the garden:

Reconstructed archway:

Another roof shot:View of the 2nd floor balcony:

Second-floor view of the museum and courtyard:

The front of a building (all the buildings are becoming a blur.. . can you tell?):View of a bell tower through an alley:
Tom and Don Quixote:
Krista and Sancho Panza:
I always did have a weakness for short guys:
This pic turned out a bit dark, but if you can look close,
there are 2 matching trees on each balconey:A church:

Getting a little lost on our walking tour; Tom trying to find our way:

Another view of the church/cathedral:

A marzipan creation of the nearby synagogue:Near the top in Toledo, looking down and back:
Neat tiled building with a graphic of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza:
The synagogue we went to:
A huge candelabra:

Some amazing keys (part of the bottom key reads Dios Abrira, which means God will open:One of the cool stone carved windows:
Amazing carved wooden ceiling:
